Dr. M. Mu received his Bachelor degree from Anhui University in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree from Fudan University in 1985. He became the academician of CAS in 2007, and the academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World in 2008. He is now the member of the degrees committee of State council, and deputy editor-in-chief for Science China Earth Sciences and Climatic and Environmental Research. He was members of the International Commission for Planetary Atmospheres and Their Evolution (ICPAE) and the International Commission for Dynamical Meteorology (ICDM). His research interest includes (1) predictability of weather and climate, (2) data assimilation, ensemble prediction and adaptive observation, and (3) nonlinear stability and instability problems in geophysical fluid dynamics. Over the years, Dr. Mu has received several awards, including Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation for Science and Technology Progress Award and the First Class Prize of Nature Scientific Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also one of the first winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
