Prof. Fangqun YU, from Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, State University of New York at Albany (SUNY-Albany), visited the department of environmental science & engineering at Fudan and Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences (SAES) from October 28th to November 13th, 2013, as a senior visiting scholar of LAP³. Prof. YU is one of the editors of Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics. His research is focused on atmospheric chemistry model. He gave a series of lectures to the researchers and students of LAP³ during his visit. The keynote lecture, entitled "Formation of the regional haze in China: modelling and observation", was delivered at ESE Fudan on October 28th and again at SAES on October 29th. During the lectures, Prof. YU described the development and application of the aerosol model, highlighting how to adjust the parameters in the modal scheme to achieve better agreement with the observations. By comparison of the modelling and the observations for several haze cases in China, Prof. YU also proposed the new information and research directions in the study of physical chemistry of aerosols.
