Dr. H. Kan received Ph.D. in environmental health sciences from Fudan University in 2003. During 2005-2007, he completed his postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. His research is focused on air pollution and public health. His group has finished the cohort study on the influence of air pollution on health of residents in China. His research results have been the only scientific evidence from developing country for the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to classify outdoor air pollution and the particulate matter (PM) in outdoor air pollution as carcinogenic to humans. Dr. Kan has published over 190 SCI papers. His research was supported by NFSC Outstanding Youth Foundation (2012). He received awards including CMB Distinguished Professorship Award (2011), New Century Excellent Talent in University by Ministry of Education (2009) and Shanghai Pujiang Scholar by STCSM (2009). He is a China regional editor for the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, and an editorial board member of the journals Epidemiology and Atmospheric Environment.
